People all around the world are relating to the #emergingproud campaign; international voices are uniting to empower change.
Joseph Atakunda is the Founder at Heartsounds Mental health Champions. Heartsounds Uganda was established in 2009 in Kampala, Uganda from an inspiration visit of East London Heartsounds Group. Heartsounds Uganda is for empowerment of Mental Health service users and for their recovery.
After suffering mental health issues and receiving disempowering treatment, Joseph now works to empower others through his Peer anti- stigma support service. Joe has found spirituality has helped him heal and understand his experiences; he will be joining me for an interview about his experiences next week.
Last month it was a huge honour to take part in possibly the most innovative event I’ve ever attended.
Hosted by THRIVE2020.org, the event tackled the question; “How can we make Guernsey the happiest place to live by the year 2020?” As an autonomous island, with the freedom to operate their own political, health and education systems, by the end of the day it felt like they are really on their way…
The speakers came from from home and abroad and all were at the cutting edge of workplace wellbeing, neuroscience, health, education, community and spirituality.
There were in total 20 TED-style talks on the day.
Thank you Guernsey, for the beautiful connections and sense of excited anticipation!
Dr Akshya Vasudev, an Indian-born, British-Canadian clinician, researcher, and psychiatrist, from London, Ontario #emergesproud to tell us about his own spiritual awakening experience and how it’s completely changed his vision of how mental health services should operate.
See Akshya’s website, Celebrating Spirituality and Wellbeing
Today Dr Akshya Vasudev and I are heading to Vancouver to talk about:
“How can it be that a Canadian Psychiatrist and a British suicidal woman ended up at the same destination by following completely different paths up the mountain to spiritual awakening?”
The bridge is truly forming as more people are waking up to the fact that we are all equal spiritual beings – the only possible way to ‘Mend the Gap’ is to be our true Selves!
Last night saw my dream manifesting.
During my workshop:
MEND THE GAP: BRIDGING THE DIVIDE BETWEEN SPIRITUALITY & PSYCHIATRY
in London, Ontario generously hosted by the Department of Psychiatry, Parkwood Institute, an attendee with lived experience announced that her Doctor was in the room and that acknowledgement of this subject was what she had been waiting for for years. They both stood up, came together and hugged; a pure acknowledgement that we truly are only ONE. Tears flowed with the realisation that change in psychiatry really is upon us.
Normalisation of spiritual experiences is vital in supporting the shift for society as a whole to reduce the distress caused by our current paradigm. My campaign #emergingproud could potentially see the start of a political transformation and prevention of people being pathologised if enough voices are heard internationally calling for this shift. Please sign up today and support this vital transformation:
World change cannot occur without us all – we ARE the world. If you share Dr Mick Collins’ passion for change, please sign up to #emergingproud – you can donate without sharing your story if you do not feel ready; I understand the fear can be huge.
I was only intending to share Mick’s interview to subscribers of the campaign, but what he has to say is too important not to share with you all…
My gratitude to this brave man is immeasurable; stepping up and speaking out is scary indeed, but Mick knows that it is the Ego that traps us in fear and that will only see the crises occurring in the world continue.
Mick’s first book is entitled ‘The Unselfish Spirit‘, and he embodies that entirely!
When I was contacted by LIV WHEELER from Skamokowa in Washington State, US, saying that spirit had guided her to start a very similar campaign to #emergingproud (#italktospirittoo) just two months previously, we knew synchronicity had a hand in bringing us together to raise the volume of the message.
Liv has been ‘out of the spiritual closet’ and communicating with nature spirits (Kontomble) for the last ten years, supporting people to reconnect with their ancestral heritage. However, she too knows that a #newparadigm is emerging.
Liv describes herself as being part of a ‘fringe’ of society, but that it’s time that was no longer the case. We know that what she has to say will be a stretch and even a challenge for some people to hear, but for those that are hiding away with these experiences, we felt the need to share the whole interview very openly.
“I received a message from Kontomble in preparation for this interview that the more that people silence their connection with Spirit, cut off that connection, our guides are oppressed in the process. When all these beings are experiencing oppression, the people go hungry. It’s interesting to think about”…
(Apologies for the video setting; Liv comes on screen after 2 mins as it was set to speaker view by mistake)
